Global University
Collaborations

For a design studio, university collaborations are a powerful way to connect with the next generation of talent. They offer a first point of contact, allowing us to engage with entire classes, observe diverse approaches, and identify standout individuals - often before the internship or hiring stage.

When I was a student, collaborations with companies gave me a real glimpse into their culture - it was a chance to see if their values matched mine and if I could imagine myself working there.

Now, on the other side, I see how valuable these projects are for both sides. They create an honest space to connect, test-fit, and grow. I like to add a challenge element - something unfamiliar - to see how students adapt, think, and push their boundaries. That’s where the real potential shows.

Below, I’ve selected a special case from one of my very first global university collaborations, where I took the creative lead.

My Role(s): Talent Recruiter, Bridge-builder, Creative Director, Project Manager, Event Host, Contact Person & General Mentor for the students

The Collab
Ecosystem

WHY
It Matters

Design university collaborations are a vital source of fresh perspectives and uninhibited creativity. Students bring bold, unconstrained ideas that challenge norms and inspire innovation beyond everyday studio work. These partnerships also help position brands as forward-thinking and deeply engaged with the future of mobility and design culture.

HOW
It Works

Studios partner with universities on themed design projects, often exploring long-term concepts 5 to 10 years ahead. Industry experts mentor students while encouraging freedom of exploration, fostering a two-way exchange of ideas. The collaboration is structured around workshops, reviews, and final presentations that feed directly into the studio’s innovation pipeline.

WHAT
We Achieve

I gain access to raw, visionary thinking that can shape future design directions and spark internal studio discussion. At the same time, I spot and build relationships with top emerging talent who already understand a brand's design values. These projects often yield unexpected insights that influence both creative strategy and a brand's cultural relevance.

Meet Paul (Zou Hanyu), a talented graduate of the Masters Program of the China Academy of Art. He first started as an eager student in this collaboration project, then got chosen by me to join the Design Talent Studio Program and now works as a Junior Exterior Designer in Zeekr's Shanghai Studio.

Communication
Is Key

A key aspect of all successful collaborations is communication - both internally and externally.

Internally, it fosters inspiration, cross-pollination, and a shared sense of purpose among teams. Externally, it’s essential to give students a platform to present their visionary concepts, positioning them as future voices of the industry.

For the brand, this openness adds real value: through exhibitions, in-store showcases, local activations, and storytelling across social media and other channels, it highlights the power of collaboration and the impact of investing in emerging design talent.
